Why ChatGPT doesn't recommend your HVAC company: 7 reasons

By Eugene Piatibrat, Iscra Search · Published September 25, 2026

Short answer: ChatGPT usually leaves a good HVAC company out because it can't find or verify it: the company is missing from Bing, its name or phone differs between listings, its website doesn't say plainly what it does and where, or it has few reviews and few mentions outside Google. Each of these can be checked in a few minutes.

1. You're not on Bing Places

Industry research reports that ChatGPT relies heavily on Bing's index when it searches. Many small contractors never set up Bing Places.

Check: search your company name on bing.com/maps. How to set up Bing Places.

2. Your name, address or phone don't match across listings

AI assistants cross-check a business across sources. A different phone on Yelp, an old address on BBB or two Google profiles for one company make it harder to confirm that all these listings are the same business.

Check: compare your name, address and phone on Google, Bing, Yelp, BBB, Angi and your website. Look for duplicate listings.

3. Your website doesn't say plainly what you do and where

Lines like "Your comfort is our priority" give an AI nothing to repeat. A sentence like "Family-owned HVAC company in Frisco, TX, since 2012, repairing and installing AC and furnaces" gives it four facts.

Check: read your homepage's first paragraph. Does it name your service, your city and your company?

4. Few reviews, or reviews only on Google

Review recency and volume scored among the top factors for AI visibility in Whitespark's 2026 survey. Different assistants read different sources: Gemini uses Google data, and Perplexity has been reported to use Yelp. Some industry analyses also report that assistants rarely recommend businesses rated below about 4.3 stars.

Check: count your reviews from the last 90 days on Google, Yelp and BBB.

5. No pages for your services and cities

For "AC repair in Prosper", an assistant looks for a company clearly tied to Prosper and to AC repair. One generic "Services" page covering six cities rarely makes that connection.

Check: do you have a page for each main service and each city you serve?

6. Nobody else mentions you

In AI search, mentions of your business on other sites (citations) work like links in classic SEO, according to Whitespark's 2026 report. Directories, the local Chamber of Commerce, local news and supplier "find a dealer" pages all count.

Check: search your company name in quotes and count the sites, other than your own, that mention it.

7. Your website is hard for bots to read

Some sites block AI crawlers in robots.txt by accident, show key information only inside images, or load text with scripts that crawlers don't run. Without schema.org markup, machines have to guess your address and services.

Check: open yoursite.com/robots.txt and look for lines that block bots such as OAI-SearchBot, Bingbot or PerplexityBot. Test your homepage at validator.schema.org.

What not to do

Nobody can guarantee what an AI assistant will say. Fixing these seven points makes your business easier to find and verify, which is what you can control.
